Suspended Risk and Legal Services head of the City of Ekurhuleni official has been arrested.
The official was placed on precautionary suspension in December 2025 for failing to act against wrongdoing and following allegations of corruption and misconduct.
He had come under fire at the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry for allegedly being part of a group that blocked a disciplinary action against suspended Deputy Chief of Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD) Julius Mkhwanazi in 2023.
More details to follow.
Meanwhile, the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry in Pretoria went into a closed session this morning after granting the request of Witness M to have their testimony heard in camera.
The witness, believed to be a businessman, had asked the commission to close proceedings to the public, saying their evidence contained sensitive information which involved people including heads of state and members of drug syndicates.
Witness M also indicated that giving evidence in open session would compromise his safety, and that of his family.
The commission’s Chairperson retired Judge Mbuyiseli Madlanga said the announcement of open sessions will be made in due course.
“It will be announced, because at this stage, we have no idea by when it will be done. So, I can’t announce that we will resume in open session on such and such a date, at such and such a time … that will be announced by our spokesperson in due course,” says Witness M.
