The battle for control of South Africa’s economic hub is intensifying ahead of the November local government election. This, as political parties continue to unveil their mayoral candidates for Johannesburg.
The Land Party has announced media personality, poet, and author Nontsikelelo Mazwai as its candidate for the City of Johannesburg.
Founded in Hermanus in 2018, the party says it is looking to expand its footprint by contesting one of the country’s most politically contested metropolitan municipalities.
Mazwai says her campaign will focus on cleaning up Johannesburg, restoring residents’ dignity, and improving service delivery across the metro.
“Today, I refuse to remain an armchair critic, a keyboard warrior. I have decided to act. That is why I have joined the land party, the only political home with a consistent track record of fighting for the poor, the destitute, the working class and ordinary South Africans. It is the party with pragmatic policies that speak directly to the daily struggles of our people.”
