There could be some true brotherly love coming soon to the Milwaukee Brewers organization.
That’s because with the 25th-overall pick in the Major League Baseball draft the Brewers selected high-school shortstop Trey Ebel, the 17-year-old brother of one of their first-round picks last year, shortstop Brady Ebel.
The 6-foot, 180-pounder hails from Corona, Calif. – the same hometown as Brice Turang – and is current a Texas A&M commit.
Slot value for the 25th pick this year is $3,696,000.
Trey Ebel was projected by most to be a second-round pick, so this selection is likely a combination of the Brewers favoring the projectability and base of knowledge they already have with Brady in the system and the strong possibility they will be able to sign him to an under-slot deal and shift those savings to later in the draft.
Brady Ebel, taken No. 32 overall last year, signed for $2.75 million with slot value being $2,970,900.
The Ebels boast impressive lineage as the sons of Los Angeles Dodgers third-base coach Dino Ebel, with Baseball America having this to say about Trey:
“While Trey might not have quite the draft ceiling that his brother did at the same stage, he’s done a nice job adding physicality to improve his stock this spring with Corona High. Ebel has a similar game that is becoming a theme for the Ebel family. He’s not the twitchiest player in the field or in the box, but he has a patient and selective offensive approach as a righthanded hitter. He understands the strike zone and doesn’t expand it, with a prep track record of walking more than he strikes out. He also made lots of contact on the 2025 circuit, with an all-fields approach and solid line-drive contact to the gaps.
“Ebel’s added physicality this spring led to more over-the-fence power and has upped his ceiling for many clubs. He’s a below-average runner who moved from second base as a junior (in deference to Billy Carlson) to shortstop as a senior. Ebel has reliable hands, actions and an above-average arm, but most scouts expect him to slide to either third base or second base at the next level, where he has a chance to be an above-average defender.”
Brady Ebel is currently batting .248 with six home runs and 48 runs batted in over 79 games at Class Low A Wilson.
Milwaukee’s next pick is No. 66.
