The Springboks will keep a close eye on Scotland’s backline when the two teams clash in a Nations Rugby Championship encounter in Pretoria on Saturday.
SA Rugby Mobi Unit coach, Duane Vermeulen, says first time tackles will be crucial against a team whose backline has completely outscored their forwards in the last five years.
Compared to the rest of the world’s rugby teams, the Springboks have been successful in protecting their try line against Scotland.
Saturday’s opponents have only scored two tries against them in the last three games but Vermeulen warns it’s not easy.
“Wing Edwill van der Merwe will play his first test against Scotland but has experience on other levels against his opponents.”
Van Der Merwe says, “History favours the Boks as the Scots have never beaten us in South Africa.”
