Pig farmer Zacharia Olivier has told the High Court in Polokwane that he was not truthful in the statement he made after his arrest, saying he lied in order to help his co-accused be set free.
Olivier, accused number one in the double murder trial, told the court he was untruthful so that accused number two, now a state witness, Rudolph de Wet, and accused number three, William Musora, could be released. He also says he had hoped to receive a lighter sentence due to his age.
“It was a lie on my behalf because I wanted to protect what we had agreed upon in that this man should be set free,” Olivier says.
Olivier and Musora are on trial for the murder of two women, Maria Makgato and Kudzai Ndlovu, whose bodies were discovered in a pigsty at Olivier’s farm outside Polokwane in August 2024.
