A group of protestors, mostly youngsters, went on the rampage and started vandalising and looting some spaza shops in the area.
Some of the marchers are armed with sticks calling for undocumented immigrants to return to their countries.
The situation remains tense and a large police contingent is monitoring the area.
One of the marchers says undocumented migrants need to leave South Africa.
“We want these people (to) go. We are not harming anyone. We are marching peacefully. So they must go. They don’t have documents, they live for free, so they must go.”
