President Cyril Ramaphosa has warned South Africans that the right to protest does not allow for violence, vandalism, or intimidation.
In his weekly newsletter ahead of Tuesday’s expected protests against undocumented foreign nationals, the President urged demonstrators to remain peaceful and lawful.
He says government has accepted that the country’s immigration system requires substantial reform and therefore government is strengthening border management,.
The President says government is increasing enforcement against undocumented immigration, improving the integrity of the asylum and visa systems, and taking action against corruption that has weakened immigration control.
The President further emphasised that the country’s law-enforcement authorities are on high alert and stand ready in defence of the rule of law.
