Eastern Cape Premier Oscar Mabuyane says the province will ensure a safe and peaceful repatriation of foreign nationals ahead of Tuesday’s protest against undocumented immigration.
Multi-disciplinary teams have been deployed to monitor demonstrations.
The provincial government has reported that approximately 700 foreign nationals, mostly Malawians, have been processed by the Department of Home Affairs in Jefferys Bay and St Francis Bay.
It also says it has set up a central Provincial Processing Centre in kuGompo City as a strategic central location.
“Operational plans are in place to manage any eventuality all logistical arrangements have been coordinated to ensure the smooth and safe escort of foreign nationals that are being repatriated to their country of origin, communities are urged not to take the law into their own hands grievances should be directed to appropriate government channels,” Mabuyane elaborates.
