Forensic investigator Paul O’Sullivan has told the Madlanga Commission that allegations that KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi received a Louis Vuitton (LV) bag are highly suspicious.
O’Sullivan alleges that Mkhwanazi and suspended National Police Commissioner General Fannie Masemola received the bags from businessman Inbanathan Kistiah in return for his company, I-View Integrated Systems, being appointed to supply bulletproof vests.
O’Sullivan testified that the evidence he has consists of newspaper reports and a response from the Independent Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC), which confirmed that the allegations are the subject of an ongoing investigation.
“That’s all the evidence I have. So, it’s not a smoking gun. You’ve got a newspaper article, an attempt by me to validate the newspaper article by issuing a subpoena. IDAC’s response saying this is a live investigation. I’m not giving you an answer to your subpoena. Commissioners, I’m saying, surely that gives the impression that there is something there. There’s something going on with these Louis Vuitton bags,” adds O’Sullivan.
