The U.S. Men’s National Team is heading to the knockout stage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. While that much was known before the team’s final group matchup against Turkey, there has still been some negative energy following the USMNT’s last-second loss in that game. However, not everyone views the final group-stage loss negatively, especially given that the bulk of the group’s starters remained on the sidelines throughout that game. Among those who had no issue with it was former USMNT goalie Tim Howard, who had some strong words.
On Unfiltered Soccer, Howard spoke about the loss:
“Just to remind everybody about last night, that was fine. That was great, actually…” Howard began. “It’s really good to play in hard games, that’s great. Playing in a hard game that didn’t go our way when the result didn’t matter is success to me.”
After reiterating his stance by saying “we’re fine,” he proceeded to add a quick message regarding the team’s upcoming knockout game against Bosnia-Herzegovina.

Howard’s parting message stood out most, as he threw his full support behind the USMNT with a stern warning to Bosnia-Herzegovina.
“Bosnia…they’re better off not even getting on a plane and going to San Francisco, because the U.S. is gonna put work in against them,” Howard stated.

It’s hard not to appreciate what Howard had to say following the 3-2 loss to Turkey. The longtime USMNT goalkeeper also highlighted that several players gained World Cup experience that could be needed down the road. He was also quick to point out how good Christian Pulisic looked in his return from the calf injury, which sidelined him against Australia and the second half of the team’s opener against Paraguay.
