Section 9 softball coaches Alyssa Valente of Pine Bush and Les Funk of Pine Plains have been named New York State coach of the year in their respective classes, announced with the all-state player selections.
Valente was named a co-coach award winner in Class A and Funk in Class C. Both coaches led their teams to Section 9 titles, and Pine Bush was a state finalist and Pine Plains a state semifinalist.
The all-star teams were produced by the New York State Sportswriters and Coaches Organization for Girls Sports.
