Indiana Fever superstar Caitlin Clark exited Wednesday night’s 111-109 loss to the Phoenix Mercury in the third quarter with a back injury after entering the contest as a game-time decision due to the lingering issue. And on Friday, Fever head coach Stephanie White revealed that the injury will keep Clark out for at least one game.
White told reporters on Friday that Clark won’t play in the Fever’s game against the Los Angeles Sparks on Saturday night (nationally televised on CBS).

“She’s okay,” White said about Clark. “She’s going to be out on Saturday. But she’s doing alright.”
White said that there’s “no indication” of how long Clark will be out.
“Obviously, it’s a good time, because we [don’t play again until July 5].” White explained. “So, we’ll take this opportunity just to get her treatment, get her healthy, get her back on the floor, and see what happens… Long-term health and wellness is the most important thing.”
“I just think that, again, we want her to be healthy,” White added. “Physically, mentally, emotionally, all the things. I think it’s important to remember that, again, when you’ve gone through injury and the traumatic aspect of injury, especially that she had last year, it’s ups and downs. Physically, mentally, and emotionally. Making sure that she’s 100 percent ready to go is the most important thing. And her taking care of that is priority for us.”
Clark also missed a game on May 20 due to the back ailment and was limited to just 13 games last season due to injuries.
The former Iowa Hawkeyes star has played 17 games, averaging a career-best 21.2 points, along with dishing out 8.2 assists per game. Despite only playing 20 minutes and battling through the injury on Wednesday night, Clark still scored 19 points (5-of-9 from the field, 3-of-4 on threes, 6-of-6 on free throws) and had eight assists.
It’s been a very eventful week for Clark, who sounded off on WNBA officiating earlier in the week after she was told that she received a technical foul for clapping. White also called out WNBA officiating for the “cheap shots” Clark is receiving. And the WNBA’s treatment of Clark has led to numerous hottakes from the sports media world this week.
