Acting National Police Commissioner Puleng Dimpane has warned that police will be tough on those who engage in unlawful activities while staging marches or protests in the country.
Dimpane says plans are in place to maintain law and order amid growing tensions over immigration.
She was part of a team of South African and Malawian officials who conducted an oversight visit at a new temporary repatriation centre processing displaced undocumented Malawian nationals in Durban on Sunday.
Dimpane says they do have sufficient resources and have so far managed to deal with the situation.
“Plans are in place to ensure that we maintain law and order what will call for. If there are marches for peaceful marches, if the law is broken, we will be there in our numbers to ensure that we enforce the law. So, we call for peaceful marches, we call for adherence to the laws of this country.”
