The Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) will on Monday afternoon brief the media on the outcomes of the voter registration weekend.
This follows the conclusion of the national registration drive. The campaign forms part of preparations for the Local Government Elections scheduled for November 4, 2026.

IEC CEO Sy Mamabolo says preliminary figures suggest total registration activity may have surpassed the one-million mark, with many first registrants believed to be young people.
“Despite the inclement weather in some of the provinces, we still experienced a steady flow of voters coming to register. It does appear to us, at least at this stage, that the majority of those who are registering for the first time are indeed young people. I think the total registration activity may have surpassed the one million mark, but of course this is total, it includes people who are re-registering and so on.”
