“Our game will be better, and we will do our best for 90 minutes” – that’s the confident message from Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos ahead of South Africa’s must-win World Cup clash against Czechia on Thursday.
Broos has indicated in the pre-match press conference that he and his charges began preparing two days after the heartbreak against Mexico and that he might have a few tactical tricks up his sleeve.
There was a sober analysis from both coach and captain Ronwen Williams who spoke of the pain and hurt of losing to Mexico. Despite the setback, the team has remained united, reinvigorated its belief, analysed its next opponents, and is ready to take on Czechia.
FIFA have Czechia ranked at 40, Bafana at 61 – but this is World Cup football and the Mercedes Stadium in downtown Atlanta is set for an epic battle, with its roof closed, to see which team can close the gap to Mexico and South Korea who also feature in a late fixture on Thursday in Group A.
Broos told Sunday’s press conference that they intended to do their best and fight for 90 minutes.
Ghana and Cabo Verde offering some welcome inspiration.
