Johannesburg Water says clinics, hospitals, schools and old age homes are its priority as it carries out repairs.
This follows a major pipe burst that is affecting water supply to parts of Soweto.
The water utility says additional material required for the repairs is expected to be delivered on Tuesday. It also says it is using trucks to provide alternative water supply to affected residents.
Johannesburg Water’s spokesperson, Nombuso Tshabalala says, “Johannesburg Water teams are continuing with repairs following a major pipe burst affecting supply to the Zondi Reservoir, Zondi Tower and the Dobsonville direct feed. Although repair work started immediately and teams have worked around the clock, additional work was required to ensure that the new section of pipe can be safely connected to the existing infrastructure.”
“The additional material required for this work is expected to be delivered on the 16th of June 2026. Once it has been delivered, teams will complete the remaining repairs and then be able to determine and estimate an estimated time for restoration for water supply in the area,” adds Tshabalala.
