Maduro has been transported to a New York City Federal Courthouse ahead of his first appearance later today.
He was flown by a US helicopter from his detention centre in Brooklyn for the short trip to Manhattan where he, along with his wife Celia Floros, are due to face narco-terrorism charges.
Maduro was seen exiting the helicopter, handcuffed in a brown jumpsuit, wearing bright jail issued orange socks as he was escorted by Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) officials into an armoured truck for a short drive to the Courthouse precinct downtown in Manhattan.
He along with his wife, Celia Flores, have been held at the Brooklyn Metropolitical Detention Centre since their capture by the US military in Caracas and then swiftly transported to the United States, drawing criticism of violations of Venzeuala’s sovereignty and the UN Charter.
Maduro expected in Court around 7pm Central African Time (CAT) where the process that will unfold remains unclear, including whether they have lawyers or how they will plead.
