There’s good news on the injury front for the Denver Broncos ahead of their Week 15 showdown with the Green Bay Packers.
In addition to tight end/fullback Nate Adkins (knee) and defensive lineman D.J. Jones (ankle) returning to practice on Wednesday, left guard Ben Powers (biceps) was also back on the field. Powers has spent the last two months on injured reserve and after returning to practice, he has now started a 21-day window to return from IR.
If Powers is not activated to the 53-man roster within three weeks, he will revert to IR for the rest of the season. Powers is the fifth player the Broncos have designated to return from IR this year, and the limit is eight players.
Other players who could return from IR this season include linebacker Drew Sanders (foot) — who has already been designated to return — tight end Lucas Krull (foot) and running back J.K. Dobbins (foot). Dobbins could return if Denver reaches the Super Bowl.
Back to the offensive line: Alex Palczewski has filled in well while Powers has been sidelined, but Powers will likely reclaim his starting role once healthy. That would likely bump “Palcho” back to a jumbo role, and he would become the team’s top backup tackle and guard down the stretch.
