The South African Revenue Service (SARS) says the filing period for those who do not receive automatic assessments will start on the 13th of next month and end on October the 23rd.
It’s for provisional and non-provisional taxpayers who must submit returns.
The auto assessment process is designed for taxpayers with less complex tax matters.
SARS Commissioner Johnston Makhubu says, “Filing season is very important for us to communicate with taxpayers, we have about 50 million interactions during any filing season which means it’s an opportune moment for us and the taxpayers to be able to interact, and we believe that that is a moment where we are able to demonstrate the trust because we would have withheld monies from taxpayers and they would have trusted that we would pay them back when we’ve over held and they would have paid in when we’ve under held.”
