Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis says the City’s housing programme is expanding as it works to increase affordable accommodation in well-located areas.
This follows his handover of the Salt River Market site for the development of 970 affordable housing units in Cape Town’s inner city. Several inner-city sites have been identified for large-scale housing projects scheduled to begin construction this year. Hill-Lewis says these developments aim to boost both social housing and affordable rental opportunities for residents.
“I was very pleased to hand over the City’s Salt River Market site today for the construction of 970 affordable apartments in Cape Town’s inner city. This is among four inner city sites where construction is set to begin this year on over 3 000 affordable apartments, including over 1 500 social housing apartments. These are the visible results of our commitment to release more city land for affordable accommodation.”
The City has reached another milestone in its affordable housing programme with the handover of the Salt River Market site for construction of 970 affordable housing units.
