Last season, former Pittsburgh Steelers head coach brought in wide receiver DK Metcalf, promptly traded away George Pickens and then just left Metcalf to suffer with absolutely no talent around him. It was hard to watch Metcalf go through the 2025 season and it even spilled over only quarterback Aaron Rodgers who was hamstrung by a lack of talent and inept coaching.
Once Tomlin left, the Steelers brought in new head coach Mike McCarthy who promptly upgraded the wide receiver room and spared no expense in doing so. The Steelers worked a trade with the Indianapolis Colts for veteran Michael Pittman Jr. and then used a second-round pick in the 2026 NFL draft on Alabama receiver Germie Bernard.
In looking at the league, NFL analyst Warren Sharp broke down all 32 wide receiver rooms by cost and the Steelers checked in as the fourth most expense. They are one of only four teams with more than $50 million wrapped up in the position for the upcoming season, with a whopping $31 million of their $51.9 million going to just Metcalf.

McCarthy and the front office have put plenty of weapons in place around Metcalf and Rodgers. It’s time for the two of them to produce without any excuses.
