Uganda clears way for deployment of troops to Gaza under Trump plan

KAMPALA, Aug 6 (Reuters) – Uganda’s parliament on Thursday voted to approve the deployment of its military to the Gaza Strip, if it was needed as part of a multinational security force proposed under U.S. President Donald Trump’s ceasefire plan for the enclave.

Before the vote, Ugandan Defence Minister Kiryowa Kiwanuka told lawmakers Trump had, through emissaries, contacted Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni in July seeking Kampala’s contribution to the international force.
