The Los Angeles Dodgers are entering the final leg of their nine-game road trip following the All-Star Game, and will face the New York Mets for the last series.
The Dodgers and Mets have already squared off once this season, as the Dodgers took all three-games against a Mets squad which struggled early at Dodger Stadium back in April.
New York has struggled since then as well, currently sitting last in the NL East at 17 games below .500. The Dodgers are on the complete opposite end of the spectrum, owning the best record in MLB with a 65-38 mark.
Which Pitchers Will Start Against the Mets?
Game 1: Roki Sasaki
Right-hander Roki Sasaki will open the series for the Dodgers, and came hot out of the gate to start the second half.
In his last start Sasaki threw 5.2 scoreless innings without allowing an earned run, striking out five batters. His velocity looked great, boding well for the remainder of his season. On the year, he has a 4.98 ERA through 86.2 innings and striking out 85 batters.
For the Mets, Sean Manaea will look to get back into the swing of things following a tough outing. He allowed four runs through 4.2 innings last time out, and has a 4.74 ERA on the season.
Game 2: Yoshinobu Yamamoto
Yoshinobu Yamamoto will start the second game, and had quite the outing in Sunday’s first game against the Yankees. He threw a complete game in the outing, allowing just one run throughout. On the year, Yamamoto has a 2.78 ERA and has struck out 113 batters in 119.2 innings pitched.
Nolan McLean will face him, and the right-hander has been a bright spot for the Mets this year. He has a 3.34 ERA on the season, and has struck out 135 batters so far.
Game 3: Emmet Sheehan
Emmet Sheehan will close out the series for the Dodgers, and is in desperate need of a pick-me-up after his most recent start. Sheehan’s struggles have persisted all season, and he enters his next start with a 5.13 ERA through 18 appearances.
He last pitched against the Philadelphia Phillies on Monday, allowing six earned runs in 5.1 innings as the Dodgers lost the first game of that series.
His opponent is Freddy Peralta, whose name is floating around the rumor mill given the Mets’ less than favorable position in the standings.
The Dodgers have won both of their series on this trip so far and will look to do the same in Queens. The first game of the series comes Friday at 4:10 p.m. PT.
