Khaled Meshaal pledges support for new Hamas leader Khalil al-Hayya

Khaled Meshaal, head of Hamas abroad, has pledged his support for Dr Khalil al-Hayya following his election as head of the movement’s political bureau, calling for unity during what he described as a critical period for the Palestinian people. In a statement issued on Tuesday, Meshaal congratulated al-Hayya on his election by Hamas’ General Shura Council, expressing hope that he would be granted success in leading the movement.
