Manu Kone is a player the club looked at before, a player who seems to address obvious needs, and yet Liverpool once again appear to be hovering while somebody else moves first. Supporters have seen this pattern too many times in recent windows.
The concern is not whether Kone is a good footballer, because he clearly is. The concern is whether Liverpool are prepared to act decisively in a market where hesitation gets punished. If Manchester United are doing the groundwork and Liverpool are still assessing, then fans are entitled to ask what exactly the recruitment team are waiting for.
There is also a wider issue here. Liverpool’s midfield has needed the right defensive structure ever since Fabinho declined and departed. Different combinations have worked in patches, but the side has lacked a consistent physical controller in the middle. Kone looks like he could help solve that.
Andoni Iraola has inherited a squad that needs clarity, direction and smart recruitment. If Liverpool genuinely rate Kone, they should push. If they do not, then move on quickly to another target.
