POTOMAC PARK — Trent Lapp drove in the winning run to lead Personal Best past Lefty’s, 4-3, in Game 1 of a Mountain League Baseball Senior Division semifinal series on Monday at Memorial Field.
Lapp’s walk-off double in the seventh plated Chase Deremer, who led off the inning with a single. Dylan Irons and Eli McKenzie also drove in runs for Personal Best.
Jamey Ringler pitched a complete game to register as the winning pitcher, allowing three runs (one earned) on three hits in seven innings with seven strikeouts to one walk.
Lefty’s Max Fradiska tripled and singled. Clay Bailey gave Lefty’s a quality start on the bump, giving up three runs (two earned) on two hits in five innings, fanning six and walking three.
Tyson Ramsey was tabbed with the loss on the mound.
Personal Best (16-2-1) and Lefty’s (6-9) play Game 2 of the best-of-three series on Wednesday at 8 p.m. at Memorial Field.
In the other Senior Division semifinal series, Flintstone (14-3) took Game 1 over Growden Monday via forfeit. Game 2 is scheduled on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. at Memorial Field.
Junior Division
Cresaptown 8, TM Sluggers 1
POTOMAC PARK — Grayson Long went 3 for 4, and the Cresaptown Eagles’ three arms held the Travel Mug Sluggers to four hits in a Junior Division quarterfinal victory on Monday at Hamilton Field.
Cresaptown scored in all but one inning. Mason Cowan singled twice, Walker Smith had two RBIs and scored two runs, and Ethan Morozek scored twice.
Smith picked up the win on the mound after tossing three shutout innings of one-hit ball, striking out five, in middle relief.
Liam Harper got the start and pitched three scoreless frames, giving up two hits and fanning two.
The Sluggers’ four hits were by four players, all singles. Ben Kamp was dealt the loss on the bump.
Cresaptown (15-3) battles Frostburg in the semifinals at the Cumberland Fairgrounds on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
Frostburg 10, Hampshire 5
ROMNEY, W.Va. — Frostburg exploded for six runs in the first inning to defeat Hampshire in a Junior Division quarterfinal on Monday at Hampshire High.
Frostburg’s Scott Cowan went 3 for 3 with a double and three runs, Rowan Dunn doubled and drove in two, Gavin Smith had two ribbies, Simon Greise and Jaxon Emerick garnered two singles and two runs apiece, and Eli Fair singled twice.
Fair was the winning pitcher, surrendering two runs (one earned) on a hit in 4 1/3 frames with six strikeouts to two walks.
Hampshire’s Eric Blomquist tallied two of his team’s three hits. Jacob Hite was deal the loss pitching.
Frostburg (8-9) takes on the Cresaptown Eagles in the semifinals at the Cumberland Fairgrounds on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
Casselman Valley 8, Rotary 6
POTOMAC PARK — Casselman Valley scored the final five runs, including three in the seventh inning, to beat Cumberland Rotary in come-from-behind fashion in a Junior Division quarterfinal on Monday at Holler Field.
Landon Mull gave Casselman Valley the lead in the seventh with a two-RBI double, one batter after Jase Dawson’s go-ahead RBI single.
Mull and Alex DiPasquale both had four hits, one a double, and two RBIs, Tanner Weimer singled twice and scored three times, and Teddy Baer had two hits.
Baer was the winning pitcher in relief, tossing 2 2/3 innings of one-hit ball.
Rotary’s Wade Cunningham, Blake Davis, Kellen McKenzie, Owen Lewis and Becket Robb had two singles each. Robb drove in two runs, and McKenzie scored two runs.
Oakley Lindner was the losing pitcher.
Casselman Valley (8-5-2) will face the winner of Wednesday’s Flintstone/Bedford game in the semifinals.
