A professional boxer who lived in Texas was killed in Brazos County on Saturday after a driver reversed his vehicle into her bicycle, according to the sheriff’s office.
Hannah Rapp – a 26-year-old vying for the women’s featherweight championship in the World Boxing Council – died at a local hospital after the collision near Navasota, which is just south of College Station. Charles Medina, a 31-year-old from Navasota, was arrested and charged with manslaughter in connection to the crash.
Medina passed two bicycles along the road and stopped his vehicle before reversing it and striking one of them, according to the sheriff’s office. The investigation was ongoing as of Saturday night, authorities said.
“The Brazos County Sheriff’s Office extends its deepest condolences to the family and friends of Hannah Rapp during this difficult time,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement.
Rapp balanced her professional boxing career with a full-time job as a fire and safety inspector at Texas A&M University, according to ESPN. She moved to Texas in 2024, the network reported.
The World Boxing Council said Rapp was “an exemplary monarch and a relentless warrior inside the ring” and also made a mark on the WBC and North American Boxing Federation through her dedication and charisma.”
“The loss of Hannah Rapp leaves us heartbroken,” WBC President Mauricio Sulaimán Saldiva wrote in a release. “She was an exceptional boxer, but above all, an invaluable member of our boxing family. We join in the grief that overwhelms her loved ones, her team, and all those who had the privilege of knowing and supporting her throughout her brilliant career.”
