There’s a good chance that if you are a football junkie, whether it be college, pro, or both, that you also dip your toes into the fantasy football world. I know I did for a long time before it became too addictive and became a time waster, to the point where I found myself spending way too much time watching NFL games that I only had a rooting interest in because one of my fantasy players was involved.
That was enough for Mr. Sportswriter because life has responsibilities and stuff. Up until this point, most of the fantasy games out there are based on the NFL, and for good reason. It’s the most watched league of any kind in the good ‘ole US of A, and the fantasy game has taken off and isn’t going anywhere soon. There were college offerings out there, but now …
Thanks to a new Yahoo fantasy offering, you can join and be a part of college football fantasy. According to a news release, Yahoo is launching “a new season-long college fantasy football game, featuring a completely reimagined format designed to mirror the excitement of the modern era. The game features players from college football’s biggest programs, expanded rosters to support the sport’s wealth of talent and a brand new team “Offense” roster position to reward today’s high-scoring offenses. It is the latest addition to a growing fantasy game lineup from Yahoo Sports, which was named “Best Product Experience” by the Fantasy Sports & Gaming Association (FSGA) earlier this year.”
In addition to what you’ve probably been used to with pro fantasy football, there are some additional features for the college game:
- Players from powerhouse programs: Reflecting the modern conference landscape, fans can draft players from any of the Power 4 conferences (Big 10, SEC, Big 12, ACC) plus Notre Dame. With a condensed player pool, fans can expect a more balanced, competitive experience.
- Team Offense: For the first time in Yahoo Fantasy history, fans can start an “Offense” position with team-level aggregate scoring. Fans can draft a college team’s offense as a whole and earn points for that team’s touchdowns, total yards, field goals made and wins, and lose points for turnovers and losses. The new position rewards the dynamic and creative offenses of today’s college football — read more on how it’ll work.
- Expanded rosters: The game features a larger fantasy roster (18 players) than traditional fantasy football (15 players). As the transfer portal creates new opportunities for playing time and stardom, NIL keeps talented upperclassmen in school, and freshmen are increasingly game-ready, the modern game has more stars than ever. Now fans can add even more of them to their fantasy teams.
Sounds intriguing, no? If you’d like more information on how to sign up and be a part of this new college football fantasy football game, head on over to Yahoo and get up to speed on more.
