SEATTLE – The San Francisco Giants pivoted to an all-rookie catching crew after Daniel Susac returned from the injured list on Friday and the team designated veteran Eric Haase for assignment to make room on the active roster.
Susac, Drew Cavanaugh and Jesus Rodriguez are all available behind the plate, but Susac profiles as the primary catcher. Rodriguez can play multiple positions, having started games in the outfield corners for the Giants as well as at second and third base in Triple-A Sacramento.
Cavanaugh was slated to start at catcher on Friday night, with Landen Roupp taking the mound to start the first game of the second half at T-Mobile Park.
Haase, in his 10th MLB season, was batting .162/.235/.365 with four homers. He’d thrown out six of 22 would-be basestealers but allowed 10 wild pitches and two passed balls in his 191 innings behind the plate for the Giants.
