Real Madrid defender Denzel Dumfries has become the club’s first officially registered signing for the 2026/27 La Liga season, completing the necessary paperwork to be eligible for domestic competition.
Registration process negins
The summer transfer window officially opened on July 1 across FIFA member associations, including Spain, where clubs have until September 1 at 11:59 p.m. to complete transfers and player registrations.
Before a player can be registered, La Liga must approve the operation, ensuring it complies with the league’s financial fair play regulations.
Once the league grants its approval, the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) formally validates the registration.

The player is Dutch full-back Dumfries, whose arrival from Inter Milan on a contract running until June 2030 was announced on July 5.
Interestingly, Los Blancos had already confirmed the signings of Marc Cucurella, Ibrahima Konate and Bernardo Silva before Dumfries, but the Dutch international is the first to complete the registration process.
Dumfries to replace Carvajal
Having lost Dani Carvajal this summer, Real Madrid needed a new right-back to compete with Trent Alexander-Arnold for the starting berth.
After assessing several options, including Tottenham and Spain star Pedro Porro, the Merengues settled on Dumfries, who arrives for a fee of €20 million – the value of his release clause at Inter Milan.

The seasoned right-back is still away on holiday after Netherlands’ World Cup elimination and is expected to return to pre-season in the next week.
With his registration now complete, Dumfries is officially eligible to represent Real Madrid in La Liga as soon as Jose Mourinho decides to include him in the squad.
The Spanish capital giants will now work to complete the registrations of their other three signings in Silva, Konate, and Cucurella, with the latter two still in the USA for the World Cup.
Mourinho, for his part, is eyeing at least two more new arrivals. But any more signings will require Los Blancos to offload some of their current players.
