The Chicago White Sox are 50-45 at the MLB All-Star break, in which Munetaka Murakami, Miguel Vargas, and Tristan Peters made the All-Star team.
It’s been a great season thus far, and with the second half of the season still to go, the White Sox have a chance to finally make the postseason. But what are their odds of doing so?
According to ESPN’s Bradford Doolittle, the White Sox’s odds to make the postseason are barely better than coin-flip odds. While their odds to win the division are less than one-in-four, their postseason chances are a hair above 50%.
White Sox have coin-flip odds to make postseason per ESPN
“Record: 50-45 | Projected final record: 83-79. Division title odds: 21.5% | Playoff odds: 50.3% | Championship odds: 1.3%,” Doolittle projects.
While the White Sox might not have very high World Series odds, the real thing that matters for this team is their chances to make the postseason.
Currently, according to Doolittle’s projection for ESPN, the White Sox have barely better than coin-flip odds to make the playoffs.
Currently, they own the top spot in the AL Central coming out of the All-Star break, but tied with the Cleveland Guardians, they easily could fall into a Wild Card spot.

The Minnesota Twins and Detroit Tigers aren’t too far back either, so this AL Central division is very much up for grabs coming out of the All-Star break.
The White Sox might have the edge right now, but they really need to add some help at the trade deadline if they want to increase those AL Central and playoff odds.
But if White Sox fans were told they’d have a 50% chance of making the postseason at the All-Star break before the season, there would be no complaints.
This projection from ESPN isn’t terrible, as coin-flip odds give the White Sox a decent chance to see their team in the playoffs later this season.
