The Baltimore Ravens are making it clear that Zay Flowers remains a major part of their future plans.
Speaking as the team opened training camp, general manager Eric DeCosta expressed confidence that the Ravens and their standout wide receiver will eventually reach a long-term contract extension.
“I love Zay. Zay wants to be here. We want Zay here,” DeCosta said Thursday, according to the Ravens’ official website. “He’s got a great agent in Joel Segal and Geoff Garmhausen. Those guys are really good agents. We’ve had good conversations. (Vice president of football operations) Nick Matteo does a phenomenal job negotiating. Certainly a work in progress; optimistic about it. I feel like at some point it gets done.”
DeCosta didn’t stop there, emphasizing the impact Flowers has made both on and off the field since arriving in Baltimore.
“We love Zay. Zay is a phenomenal football player and his energy is infectious. I expect him to have a great year.”
The Ravens have already ensured Flowers will remain under contract through the 2027 season after exercising the fifth-year option on the former first-round pick earlier this offseason. The option is valued at $27.298 million, giving Baltimore flexibility while continuing negotiations on a longer extension.
The Ravens don’t want to lose Flowers
Still, completing a new deal sooner rather than later could prove financially beneficial for the organization. With elite wide receiver contracts continuing to climb across the NFL, locking up Flowers now could save the Ravens millions before the market rises even higher.
Flowers has quickly established himself as one of the league’s premier young playmakers. After recording consecutive 1,000-yard receiving seasons, the two-time Pro Bowler is coming off the best campaign of his career.
In 2025, Flowers hauled in 86 receptions for a career-high 1,211 receiving yards while adding five touchdown catches. His ability to stretch the field, create separation and generate explosive plays has made him one of quarterback Lamar Jackson’s favorite targets and a centerpiece of Baltimore’s offense.
With negotiations progressing and both sides expressing a desire to remain together, the outlook appears promising. If DeCosta’s optimism proves accurate, it may only be a matter of time before the Ravens secure one of the NFL’s brightest young receivers with a long-term extension.
