Liverpool have lost Mohamed Salah.
The Egyptian King has moved on having reached an agreement to rip up his £400k per week contract one year early.
It leaves the Reds without a starting right winger – with the club so far unsuccessful in bringing in a blockbuster name.
Salah’s deputy – Federico Chiesa – hasn’t cut the mustard throughout his time at Anfield and he too is expected to be moved on.
Bologna want deal for Federico Chiesa
According to a report in Calciomercato the 28-year-old is being targetted by Bologna in Serie A.
Under contract until 2028 Chiesa’s salary has been estimated in the report at €6m – meaning the Rossoblu would require a financial favour from Liverpool to get the deal done.
Owing to the overall projected cost the Italian side can only afford to bring in Chiesa on loan and would STILL require the Merseysiders to help out on the wages.
Chiesa wants to leave
However the same report claims that the Italian international is pushing for a Serie A return and seeking to win his place back in the Azzurri squad.
“The name of Federico Chiesa has begun circulating in the city and among those close to the Rossoblu,” the report reads.
“Currently playing for Liverpool – a spell where he didn’t really shine – the former Juventus player is pushing to return to Italy and re-establish himself at the national level, hoping to reclaim the Azzurri cap.
“In this sense, despite all the difficulties involved in a very expensive deal, Tedesco’s new team will attempt to bring him back to Serie A.
“Chiesa earns around six million pounds per season, a figure well above Bologna’s salary limits.
“For this reason, the Rossoblu are seeking a loan deal with Liverpool making a significant contribution to his salary.”
Game over for Chiesa at Anfield
Chiesa was the only major arrival during the 2024/25 season – a campaign that culminated in the Premier League title victory. However his contributions were minimal and Chiesa went on to make only two top-flight starts during the 2025/26 season.
Chiesa joined for £12m from Juventus back in 2024 and hopes were high for the winger to make an impact.
He has however been left searching for game time and it remains to be seen whether he jets out next week for the preseason tour of the United States under new head coach Andoni Iraola.
