Security has been tightened at the Bridget Mabandla College precinct in Pretoria ahead of the appearance of alleged criminal cartel member Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala before the Madlanga Commission.
Matlala is currently held at Kgosi Mampuru prison, where he has been awaiting trial since his arrest in May last year. He faces separate charges of attempted murder and fraud and corruption.
His testimony before the commission is expected to cover a multi-million rand South African Police Service tender and the illegal fitting of blue lights on his private vehicles, allegedly arranged through the Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department.
Commission spokesperson Jeremy Michaels says public access to the proceedings had been restricted due to the heightened security requirements around the venue, and urges members of the public to follow the proceedings via live-streaming services.
