Economic Freedom Fighters MP Leigh-Ann Mathys says the report by Parliament’s Ad Hoc Committee should reflect that the conduct of Police Minister, Senzo Mchunu, who has been placed on special leave, was irrational when he decided to disband the Political Killings Task Team (PKTT) in 2024.
The committee is looking into allegations of political interference in the South African Police Service made by KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Police Commissioner, Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, more than a year ago.
The committee is busy compiling its draft report.
Several MPs on the committee have said that the report is too watered-down.
Mathys says, “It must be clear that the directive was irrational. It is not clear that it was irrational. This paragraph, it’s also just so watered-down.”
Meanwhile, the committee says its final report will contain observations, suggestions and recommendations of committee members.
