Seventeen-year-old Alex Shackell walked through the doors of Carmel High School on the first day of her senior year just as her classmates did.
She did, however, have one thing that they didn’t – or two, perhaps.
Olympic medals.
While her classmates spent their final week of summer relaxing, Shackell was competing on swimming’s biggest stage. It was a dream she had carried since childhood.
“I literally put ‘Paris Olympics’ in my Instagram bio when I was 8 years old,” Shackell told USA TODAY Sports.
