A US citizen working for a humanitarian organisation in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) has tested positive for the Bundibugyo Ebola virus, the US CDC said on Friday.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is working with the patient’s employing organisation, other federal agencies and partners in the DRC to help prevent further transmission and identify high-risk contacts, it said.
Meanwhile, the number of confirmed Ebola cases in the Democratic Republic of Congo has increased to 1 830 including 648 deaths, government data showed late on Friday.
The number represents all confirmed cases as of Thursday, according to a situation report published by the ministry of communication that documented cases in the previous 24 hours.
