Lucas Coenen (1:53.903) joined his brother Sacha Coenen at the top of their respective leaderboards to give the Dutch twins a sweep of qualification at The Wick 338 in Southwick, Massachusetts.
The Coenens made their debut in Thunder Valley, with Lucas finishing second in the motos to Jett Lawrence. Speculation centered on them being much faster in the sandy conditions this week and that showed up on the chart.
Jorge Prado (1:55.139) posted the second fastest time overall, but he was the quickest rider in the second session when track conditions were more similar to those riders will face in the afternoon.
Prado came within a few laps of winning his first moto and overall last week at RedBud.
That means the Lawrence brothers were not part of the top two in more than a year. The last time that happened was at Thunder Valley last year.
Jett Lawrence (1:55.276) landed third on the chart. He was testing a new foot peg that he hopes will eliminate some of the frustration he experienced at RedBud.
Hunter Lawrence (1:55.376) was one-tenth of a second slower than Jett in fourth, but he has the momentum of two consecutive overall victories to spur him during the races.
Haiden Deegan (1:56.804) was one of the few riders to improve his speed in the second session, but he landed fifth in both.
Dutch rider Roan Van De Moosdijk (1:57.053) was remarkably fast in sixth.
