Former Real Madrid midfielder Sami Khedira is set to join José Mourinho’s coaching staff as an assistant ahead of the upcoming season, club sources told Managing Madrid. The former German international was spotted in Madrid on Thursday alongside several of Mourinho’s longtime staff members.
Mourinho signed Khedira in the summer of 2010 and the German player was a crucial starter during The Special One’s three-year tenure in the Spanish capital. Khedira has no coaching experience and spent some years as a commentator after retiring as a player in 2021.
Having an assistant coach who knows the club has always been important for Mourinho. Former Real Madrid defender Aitor Karanka was his assistant during his years at Real Madrid and now Khedira will be the one taking over that role.
