The South Africa Police Service (SAPS) says it won’t comment on the arrest of an Ekurhuleni official who was arrested this afternoon. The arrested official is said to have been arrested in Germiston, in Ekurhuleni.
The official was placed on precautionary suspension in December 2025 for failing to act against wrongdoing and following allegations of corruption and misconduct.
The official came under fire at the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry for allegedly being part of a group that blocked a disciplinary action against suspended Deputy Chief of Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD) Julius Mkhwanazi in 2023.
SAPS National Police Spokesperson, Athlenda Mathe, says, “The commission’s recommendations … task team is currently conducting a takedown operation. With the operation currently underway, the South African Police Service will not comment on any aspect of the operation or on any matters arising from it. No further information will be provided until the operation has been concluded.”
