The investigations into the death of Deputy National Police Commissioner for Crime Detection, Lieutenant General Sindile Mfazi, has moved to a full-scale murder investigation.
He died in July 2021, reportedly due to COVID-19-related complications.
Allegations before Parliament’s Ad Hoc Committee suggest that Mfazi might have been assassinated through poison.
Yesterday the Police Cold Case Unit raided at least four properties in Centurion, Pretoria, regarding the murder investigation.
A person of interest is being questioned.
Police are also looking at other persons of interest and have seized a number of electronic devices.
Police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe says the investigation is at a sensitive stage.
“Let’s not say much, but just to confirm that the police are investigating a full-scale murder investigation. We have raided four premises, two offices and two residential premises, and investigations are ongoing. I did highlight that it is a combination of high-profile persons and other persons that we are pursuing in terms of the murder case of Lieutenant General Mfazi. I think that’s all that we can say for now,” adds Mathe.
