Six people have been killed in a collision between two vehicles on the R34 in Newcastle, in northern KwaZulu-Natal.
The Road Traffic Inspectorate says one of the vehicles burst into flames on impact.
Two of the victims were trapped inside the burning vehicle.
Provincial Transport spokesperson Ndabezinhle Sibiya says, “Sadly, our Road Traffic Inspectorate team has just reported that as a result of the devastating impact, one VW Polo caught fire. It is suspected that the two victims travelling in this Polo were entrapped and perished instantly. This number may change depending on the result of the forensic investigation to be conducted by the South African Police Service.”
