Israel says 26,000 troops treated since Gaza war began, most for psychological conditions

The Israeli Ministry of Defence said on Thursday that around 26,200 members of the Israeli military and security forces have received treatment since the start of the war in the Gaza Strip, with 65 per cent suffering from psychological conditions, including post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The ministry released the figures as the war reached 1,000 days. However, official casualty figures are subject to strict Israeli military censorship, and the published numbers have been questioned by observers, who suggest the actual figures could be higher. In a statement, the ministry said around 17,000 of those receiving treatment through its Rehabilitation Department were being treated for psychological conditions, while 7,700 had sustained physical injuries, including 97 amputations.
