Three Lesotho nationals are expected to make their second appearance in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court on Thursday morning following their arrest in connection with the Cleveland mass shooting, in which 13 people were killed last month.
Michael Metsing, Rammonne Maikutlo and Molebeli Mosia made a brief court appearance last week, when the matter was postponed for profiling, address verification and confirmation of their legal status in South Africa.
The shooting took place on 9 June, shortly after 11pm, when more than 10 suspects allegedly entered the Jumpers Informal Settlement in Cleveland and opened fire on residents.
Twelve people were killed at the scene, while 15 others were injured. Another victim later died, bringing the death toll to 13.
The three suspects were arrested last Wednesday at the KwaMai-Mai Informal Settlement in Johannesburg.
During their first court appearance, relatives of the victims staged an impromptu protest outside the court, calling for bail to be denied.
