After weeks of speculation, Jaylen Brown is headed to the Philadelphia 76ers. This was a surprising trade, mostly because of the package the Boston Celtics got in return, as they received a 36-year-old Paul George and a haul of draft picks.
Despite the number of promising picks, many Celtics fans are unhappy with how it all turned out. Brown was a superstar for Boston, but it ended in an offseason in which he didn’t even send in a trade request to Brad Stevens and the front office.
The Jaylen Brown trade left the Celtics’ front office pleased with the move
The 76ers and their fans can be pleased to have a superstar who just averaged 28 points per game in the 2025-26 season. At the same time, Brown is a decorated player who has reached the NBA Finals twice, winning one and earning Finals MVP.
He is the third star Philly needed alongside Tyrese Maxey and Joel Embiid. While there were some shaky moments in the past when Brown called Embiid a flopper, he still gave him the due respect he deserved even back then. Now, it is likely that all is forgiven because Brown is a great fit for Philly.

For the Celtics, it is the end of an era. Brown and Jayson Tatum were the focal points of a long-term system that many predicted would last for their entire careers. Unfortunately, it seems Brown was disgruntled after the 2025-26 season, especially after being included in the Giannis Antetokounmpo trade package.
However, it has been reported that it was an easy decision for Boston at the end of the day. They are reportedly happy with the haul they received for Brown, which is surprising because Brown was such a huge part of their success over the past decade.
“I think if Boston makes further moves, it will be moves around the edge. This was their super move right here, and they feel really good about how they positioned themselves; they like the structure of their roster next season,” Chris Haynes reported about the Celtics’ reaction to the Brown trade.
This remains one of the most surprising moves of the past few years. Brown will be a fantastic addition for Philly, but it leaves the Celtics forever changed. George might have had some promising performances, but his age could detract from the Celtics moving forward.
