Nelson-Ododa has found her rhythm for Connecticut
The stylish entrance comes during one of Nelson-Ododa’s best stretches of the season. The 6-foot-5 center enters Thursday averaging 8.3 points, 5.1 rebounds and 1.8 assists while shooting an impressive 61.0% from the field.
She’s elevated her play even further since moving into the starting lineup. In five starts this season, Nelson-Ododa has averaged 12.2 points, 10.2 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 1.0 steals and 1.4 blocks per game, giving Connecticut a consistent presence in the paint on both ends of the floor.
Her most recent outing may have been her best. In the Sun’s 68-57 victory over the Washington Mystics, Nelson-Ododa finished with 12 points, nine rebounds, three assists, two steals and a season-high three blocks, helping Connecticut extend its winning streak to two games.
Sun look to keep momentum rolling
Although Connecticut entered Thursday with a 4-15 record, the Sun have shown signs of improvement in recent games. Nelson-Ododa’s emergence as a productive starter has been a major reason why.
The former UConn standout has provided efficiency around the basket, rebounding and rim protection while giving head coach Rachid Meziane another dependable frontcourt option. As the Sun looked to extend their winning streak against the Wings, Nelson-Ododa had already made one statement before the opening tip, with an eye-catching outfit that had the WNBA itself asking for “a little commotion.
