Businessman and alleged police informer Tumelo Nku’s testimony before the Madlanga Commission has been postponed indefinitely due to security concerns.
This has been confirmed by the commission’s Chairperson, Justice Mbuyiseli Madlanga.
Nku has been implicated in the Aeroton drug bust, which resulted in police recovering more than 700 kilogrammes of drugs in the south of Johannesburg in 2021.
Madlanga says a new date for Nku’s testimony will be announced in due course.
“There are security concerns about Mr Nku. We cannot hear his testimony. The hearing of his testimony will be or is being postponed indefinitely. An announcement will be made in due course as to when the testimony will be heard and under what circumstances.”
Nku’s testimony was cut short on Monday after he requested an opportunity to supplement his statement.
While various witnesses and Nku testified that he is an informer, Witness J, who testified before the Commission in a closed session, has disputed those claims.
According to Witness J, phone records and Threema messages extracted from Nku’s cellphone indicate that he is allegedly involved in drug trafficking.
The Commission will return on Friday at 9:30am.
