The New York Yankees will look to break a six-game losing streak on Wednesday afternoon against the Detroit Tigers.
One of their outfielders will not be available to help them do it.
“Spencer Jones is out of the lineup with food poisoning, Aaron Boone said,” MLB.com’s Bryan Hoch wrote on X.
Jones will sit in the finale against the Tigers, who have convincingly won the first two games of the series at Yankee Stadium.
New York’s offense has gone ice cold over the last week and a half. But that’s not the only reason the Yankees have lost seven of their last nine games.
Sloppy defense and poor pitching performances have suddenly put the Yankees 2.5 games behind the Tampa Bay Rays for first place in the AL East.
Jones went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts in yesterday’s embarrassing 9-3 loss.
In the first inning, the center fielder watched a potential home run robbery ball pop out of his glove and into the bullpen for a solo shot. It would have been the third out of the inning.

Instead, Yankees starter Cam Schlittler allowed two more homers in the frame and the Tigers led 4-0 heading into the bottom half.
In 80 trips to the plate this season, Jones is hitting .225/.313/.366 with two home runs, seven RBIs, and a .679 OPS.
