The Minnesota Twins will have plenty of attention on them at this year’s MLB trade deadline, and throughout July leading up to the deadline.
At 41-46, the Twins are a good bit under .500, and are 5.5 games back in the AL Central. But thanks to a weak AL Wild Card field, the Twins are just 3.0 games back of a postseason spot entering July.
However, even if the Twins aren’t out of contention just yet, Bleacher Report’s Joel Reuter believes the “most likely” outcome for the Twins would be a fire sale and full-scale rebuild rather than this team staying in contention this year.
Twins ‘more likely’ trade deadline plan would be good news for MLB
“The front office continues to throw water on the idea of trading Byron Buxton and Joe Ryan, but if the Twins hit a major rough patch, they might change their tune,” Rueter writes. “At this point, a full-scale rebuild seems more likely than contention.”
If the Twins were to struggle in July, which is entirely possible, despite their schedule not being too bad, they would be a lot more likely to sell at the deadline than not.
Minnesota selling would be great news for Major League Baseball, as there are plenty of players on this roster who teams would love to be able to acquire.
Like last year, when the Twins sold-off a ton of assets, including Jhoan Duran, this year could feature some big names being dealt.
Byron Buxton is the prize of the deadline among position players, as the right-handed hitting outfielder would be one of the best possible players to acquire at the deadline this year.

Joe Ryan would also draw significant interest and could fetch a huge return in a trade if he’s dealt. Ryan and Buxton are the top names, but there are plenty of others who could be traded this summer.
Royce Lewis, Ryan Jeffers, Kody Clemens, Josh Bell, Victor Caratini, Trevor Larnach, Bailey Ober, and maybe a reliever or two could all be on the move.
August 3 is the 2026 MLB trade deadline, so there is a little over a month to go before the Twins have to make any decision on this roster.
But, Rueter believes the “more likely” outcome will see the Twins sell, rather than keep their players and try to contend. If so, that would be great news for MLB teams, especially those interested in Buxton and Ryan.
