The Phoenix Suns are making another major offseason move, acquiring guard Luke Kennard, an unrestricted free agent who spent last season with the Los Angeles Lakers and Atlanta Hawks.
Kennard has agreed to a two-year, $13 million deal, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania. The second year is a player option.

He could be the piece Phoenix needs to replace Grayson Allen and Royce O’Neale, two of the team’s more reliable 3-point shooters last season. They were dealt to the Charlotte Hornets earlier this week for forward Miles Bridges. That deal, which included an exchange of draft picks, left a roster spot open for the Suns.
Kennard led the NBA in 3-point shooting percentage last season at 47.8%. He will likely fill a reserve role with the Suns.
The 6-foot-5-inch guard out of Duke is an unrestricted free agent who started last season with the Hawks but was dealt to the Lakers just before the trade deadline. He played last season on a one-year, $11 million contract.
Kennard averaged 8.4 points last season, along with 2.3 rebounds and 2.2 assists. Overall, he shot 53.3% from the field.
He appeared in 10 playoff games for the Lakers last season, averaging 32 minutes and 11.5 points, shooting 48.8% from the field, including 47.5% from 3-point range.
Kennard was the 12th overall pick in the 2017 draft by Detroit.
